Erica Nelson, MSPH
Strategic Services Specialist
Erica Nelson joined SAHA in June of 2017 as Strategic Services Specialist. In this role, Erica uses member feedback and her extensive experience with healthcare and business policy, professional relationship building, and project management to build the SAHA College curriculum.
SAHA College courses offer SAHA members enjoyable educational experiences strategically designed to maximize success in today’s dynamic healthcare environment. Erica facilitates several SAHA teams, providing physical or virtual space and support for various departmental leaders of SAHA member hospitals to identify shared issues and implement shared solutions with peers. Some of the teams Erica is currently working with include the SAHA Emergency Department, Education, Radiology, Operating Room and Rehabilitation teams. She also manages the SAHA website.
Erica earned a Master of Science in Public Health Policy and Management (MSPH) as well as Bachelor degrees in both Communication Studies and Exercise Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Erica’s career in healthcare spans over 17 years, beginning with facilitation of a private pediatric urology office’s transition to digital record keeping in 2000. Prior to attaining her graduate degree, Erica also held clinical and research positions at UNC Hospitals. Over the last six years, Erica worked as Director of Health Policy for the North Carolina Hospital Association and as contract lobbyist for the North Carolina Association of Community Mental Health, Developmental Disability and Substance Abuse Programs (the association representing North Carolina’s Local Management Entities or LMEs.) She successfully negotiated with state-level government officials and associated interest groups to advance health and business policies strategically designed to smooth the path for North Carolina’s hospitals and other healthcare providers to achieve the shared mission of keeping North Carolinians well and productive.
