About the Presenter: Drake Maynard, J.D.

Mr. Maynard retired from his position as Director Of Employee Relations for the State of North Carolina in 2011.  Prior to that, he had been the Senior Director of Human Resources Administration for UNC-Chapel and Personnel Director for UNC Hospitals.  Drake is on the faculty of the UNC-Chapel School of Public Health’s nationally ranked Executive Management program.  He has an undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and a law degree from the University of South Carolina.  Since retiring he began Drake Maynard HR Services, providing human resources consulting and staff development services for state and local governments.

Course Description:

Do you get overwhelmed when you feel like you need to have one of those ‘difficult conversations’? Health care is serious business and everyone needs to have meaningful, if sometimes uncomfortable, conversations sometimes. Drake Maynard will return to SAHA College to share strategies and skills to give you the confidence and expertise to engage in the difficult conversations to improve morale, communication and performance for your whole team. Bring your co-workers and learn together!

Following this session, attendees will be able to:

1.  Recognize the mental and emotional elements of being in a challenge

2.  Realize the impact of unresolved challenges on self and others

3. Learn to suspend judgment and open up to inquiry

4. Practice tools for inviting others and staying in dialogue

This program has been approved to award 3.5 hours of pre-approved ACHE Qualified Education Credit (non-face-to-face) for each of these programs toward advancement, or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives. 

Authorization by the National Association for Healthcare Quality for 3.50 CPHQ continuing education credits is pending.
