Course Description

Continuously evolving cyber-related risks and security needs, as well as government enforcement actions and suits, can make it complicated and costly for healthcare providers to protect the privacy of patient data. This session will demonstrate a streamlined method to bridge the gap between the law, technology and healthcare to increase efficiencies, lower costs and reduce legal liability for HIPAA-related violations.

Mr. Wyman’s experience includes assisting various entities in addressing data and regulatory concerns, loss of data, and privacy and cybersecurity issues arising under HIPAA and other government regulations. He also has deep experience in helping health-related entities with regulatory and transactional matters beyond HIPAA, including self-referral/anti-kickback rules and general compliance matters.  

 

 

Following this session, attendees will be able to:

  1. Articulate key components of current patient privacy regulations, including HIPAA. 

     

  2. Differentiate between authorizations and requests for access to patient records. 

     

  3. Assess current privacy policies and procedures in accordance with current government regulations. 

     

  4. Assess compliance with the risk assessment requirement and identify gaps in security reviews.

    This program has been approved to award 2.5 hours of pre-approved ACHE Qualified Education Credit (non-face-to-face) for each of these programs toward advancement, or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
